Monthly Archives: December 2016

Friday December 30th

We will have no trip tomorrow Saturday December 31. We probably could have snuck something in but it would not have been the nicest day on the water. Sundays weather does not look very good either. Monday does look like the next sailable day.

We would like to thank everyone who has sailed with us in our 2016 season. Lots of happy smiles and bent rods. Lets hope 2017 is even better!!

Wednesday December 28th

Captain Matt reported a slow grind on today’s cod fish. The weather never let up and we had to anchor most of the day. The morning saw some cod fish and sea bass on every drop but nothing to write home about. In the afternoon it finally laid down enough to be able to drift. Once we started drift we were seeing 5-8 fish a drift, but we were also doing over 2kts on the dirft. Matt tried his hardest and put in the extra time to try and get as many fish as possible. We will have no trip on Thursday and Friday is looking very doubtful.

Monday December 26th

Captain Mike reported a good day of catching on the cod boat. A good group of anglers wanted to test out all their new Christmas gear. The cod bite was a little off from what we have been seeing but the sea bass were out in force. Pool fish was a solid 10 pounds. Most anglers went home with easy limits of fine sea bass to 5 pounds. We will not have a trip tomorrow due to gale force winds. We are planing on sailing Wednesday as long as the weather holds. Please call tomorrow and double check the weather and make a reservation.

Friday Dec 23rd

We are very sorry for the late reports. Our websites has been down and we have been busy working on getting it back

Captain Mike reported a good day on Friday on the cod grounds. There was plenty of cod to go around with high hooks having around 8. When the cod bite slowed down in the morning Mike went looking for a pile of sea bass. What he found was a good size pile of big knot heads and even more cod. Pool fish was around 12 pounds.

We are sailing Monday morning at 6am. It will be a busy day after Christmas and we are asking everyone to be there at 5am

The Staff of the Frances Fleet would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Thursday December 22nd

Captain Mike reported another good day on the local cod grounds. The light group of anglers were not scared of a little rain in the forecast and wanted the Christmas gold. High hooks had limits of both cod and sea bass today. Pool fish was in the low teens. Both jigs and bait produced good amounts of cod. We will be sailing tomorrow morning at 6am. We do have spots left but it will be on the busier side. This will be our last trip before Christmas.

Christmas gift certificates can be purchased on out website and be emailed directly to you. The can be purchased at any time.

We will be not be sailing on December 24 and 25th. We do plan on resuming sailing on Dec 26th. If you would like to do on Monday please call Saturday between 12-4. We will also have the answering machine on the 25.

Wednesday December 21st

Captain Mike reported another good day on the cod grounds. There has been a bite starting closer to home so Mike decided to head that way. There were fish at every drop. The fish around BI seem to be larger then the fish on the Ledge this time of the year. pool fish was in the mid teens. Not as many sea bass in the mix today but again the ones we had were on the larger size. We do plan on sailing tomorrow morning at 6am.

We also plan on sailing on Friday at 6am If you would like to go on Friday please call the office between 12-4 tomorrow to make a reservation.

Tuesday December 20th

Captain Mike reported a great day to be back on the water. We haven’t been out in nearly a week because of mother natures but the fish were right where we left them. High hooks jigged up limits of cod. One angler had his limit before 10am. Some anglers did not fair as well but there was still plenty of cod. The sea bass and scup filled coolers as well with many limits taken. A couple dozen baseball bat ling also came over the rails. Something we haven’t seen in years was a good showing of weakfish. Nearly 20 were caught today. We will be sailing tomorrow morning at 6am on the Lady Frances.

Wednesday December 14th

Captain Mike reported a slower day on the cod grounds. The moon seemed to shut the fishing down. Much of the market sized cod seemed to have lock jaw but the bigger fish were hungry. a good amount of fish in the 15-20 pound range. More sea bass in the mix some anglers going home with a limit. 1 nice tog around 11 pounds and some flounder rounded out the catch. Today was still a good day number wise but not as good as the days previous. There will be no trip tomorrow or Friday due to the weather.
