Just a reminder that there is no 1pm to 5pm half day tomorrow Friday July 18th due to a private charter. Just a reminder also that on Saturdays during the summer we offer only one 8 am morning half day outing.
Plenty of room on tonight’s bass trip so if interested please call the office to make a reservation. Recent trips (last week) began to find a few good size bass and quite a few blue fish. Let us hope the trend continues.
Capt. Mike reported a decent morning half day sea bass wise with a respectable catch of keepers and some shorts but virtually no fluke. Pool fish was estimated at close to 4 lbs. The pm half day saw a little more action in the way of fluke and some nice keeper sea bass but overall was a bit slower than the morning run.
Sounds like fishing was quite decent overall aboard the Gail Frances today with a nice mix of fluke and good size sea bass. Pool winning fluke was taken by young Zachery Flanders from Farmington CT who on the last drop brought a fine 27.5 inch 8 lb slab to the safety of the net and on to the deck of the Gail Frances. A picture of this fine pool winner as well as his brother Anthony and Dad Stephen along with a few of their other keepers appears above today’s report and this big fluke fell victim to a whole squid. Zachery’s pool fish wasn’t the only big fish caught right at the buzzer as were three others that were within ounces all taken on the last pass including a fine 27 inch slab also on a whole squid for longtime regular customer Dan Melino. Numerous other fluke over 5 lbs on thelast pass according to Capt. Cory. Capt. Cory reported “bookends” fishing today with the first two drifts and the last two drifts were particularly memorable with a very slow pick in between. Quite a few bomber sea bass to 5 lbs today as well and there were a fair amount of sea bass limits. Hi hooks on the fluke boxed six and five keepers apiece respectively. All terminal gear seemed to have some success today despite the slow drifting conditions. Buck tails did produce best overall today. A bunch of small bluefish today and a couple scup and very few short fluke and short sea bass rounded out the catching for the day. Weather sounds great again tomorrow and Capt. Rich will be at the helm of the Gail Frances ready to set sail at 7am.
Capt. Mike and first mate Chris K was elated to report an awesome sighting of Finback Whales today!! On today’s Whale Watch they also reported great sightings of dolphins both mothers and calves frolicking all around the waters south of Block Island, and one the Finback Whales was a juvenile male and last, but certainly not least, they got a real good look at a Mola Mola or Ocean Sunfish. Exciting days like these are the kind we like to see aboard the Whale Watch boat. Next Whale Watch set sail tomorrow afternoon at 1pm. Still some seats available so if interested call to make a reservation.
