First mates Chris L and Cory reported another good day on the Gail Frances. Three things were exceptional today…the weather, the turnout of fluke enthusiasts, and the number of jumbo fluke on the boat. Of the 125 keepers boated, Cory estimated that over 70 of them were jumbo size of 4 lbs or better!! A ten pound fish took the pool, another ten pound fish was not entered in the pool. There were five fish around the 8 lb mark as well! A good amount of sea bass to four pounds as well with some anglers getting limits of good size sea bass. Some nice size porgies mixed in to boot. Hi hook on the fluke boxed 7 good size keepers. A slow forward drift in the morning did make things a bit challenging at times but as the drift picked up in the afternoon things improved markedly. Buck tails and bait rigs both produced today although no specifics on which was best. A number of customers recently have been calling and inquiring as to what time they can get on board the Gail Frances in the morning. The answer is when a crew member is on board the boat which is usually around or just before 6 am. More great weather on tap for tomorrow and Capt. Rich looks forward to setting sail aboard the Gail Frances at 7 am for fluke and sea bass.
Capt. Matt was at the helm of both the morning and afternoon half day outings and reported respectable fishing but nothing as crazy as yesterday. A 7 lb fluke this afternoon was the biggest flat fish of the day. A similar amount of fluke each trip and a nice mess of good size sea bass but no real trophies today. Still many customers left with at least a good meal’s worth of fresh fillets. Two half days on tap for tomorrow with the Lady Frances set to sail at 8 am and then the Admiral Frances set to sail at 1 pm. Back to back half day trips will net the angler $15 off the second half day outing! A couple pics from yesterday morning’s half day are provided courtesy owner Christine Blount.
Still lots of room on tomorrow’s Whale Watch slated to leave at 1 pm on the Lady Frances. Excellent sightings have reigned supreme on just about every tour this summer and the window left for viewing is limited as the last outing of the season sails next Tuesday the 26 th. If interested please call the office to make a reservation this evening or after 8 am tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately, Sunday’s cod trip is cancelled. We will wait until probably the third weekend in September to begin the Fall Cod schedule.
