First mates Capt. Matt and Cote reported one of the best nights of night time fishing of the season thus far, at least as far as Stripers were concerned and the number of anglers on board targeting them. A very light crowd last night and at least a few limit catches were noted. Good size stuff too with a 35 lbr being the biggest and several others in the 25 lb range. A nice bunch of small blue fish mixed in as well. It has been a tough season overall for night time fishing but we are pleased to seem some strong signs of recovery in the ninth inning here! Still plenty of room on tonight’s trip so if interested please call the office to book a reservation. The on line booking for tonight’s trip is timed out so again call the office and an office representative will gladly take your reservation. A couple pics from last night’s trip showcasing a few of the angler hi lights provided courtesy first mate Cote.
Roger reported a decent morning half day. Quite a few sea bass with a few angler limits and a handful of keeper fluke. A sea bass of 3.5 lbs took the prize today for one lucky angler. Rental rod set ups produced best this morning. Plenty of small sea bass and a few short fluke to keep anglers amused in between the keepers. Sounds like the afternoon trip produced some sea bass and a few fluke and one nice blue fish. Two more half days on tap tomorrow with the Lady set to sail at 8am and the Admiral at 1pm. Back to back trips can net an angler a $15 discount off the second outing.
First mates Cory and Chris L reported a slower day today with a very fast drift. It was definitely a day for bait rigs and whole squid. As luck would have it the best fishing of the day was the last drift when nearly half of the keeper fluke were caught as the drift slowed down and became just tide driven as it was wind and tide together all day. To be sure some quality slabs were taken including Sin Park from Pallisades Park NJ with a fine 8 lbr that took the pool and Mr. Choi was right behind with a summer flounder that went over 7 lbs. A picture of Mr. Park’s pool fish is shown above today’s report along with a number of other pictures showcasing just some of the angler hi lights from today. All photos courtesy owner Christine Blount. Some other jumbos but in general there was not the quality of the past several trips today. Still all in all for a modest crowd, a respectable amount of fluke, sea bass and scup made it aboard. Biggest sea bass around 3 lbs and there were a handful of sea bass limits. More great weather on tap for tomorrow and Capt. Rich will be ready to set sail on the Gail Frances at 7 am.
Capt. Mike reported an AWESOME Whale Watch!! Finbacks by the dozen along with Minke Whales pleased on lookers as they frolicked playfully in the waters south of Block Island. Next Whale Watch is scheduled for tomorrow, with the Lady Frances set to sail at 1 pm. The on line reservation system is timed out for this trip but reservations can still be easily made by calling the office this evening until 8 pm or after 8 am tomorrow morning.
