Roger reported incredible weather, great angler participation and very comfortable temperatures today aboard the Gail Frances. The cod fishing however was not nearly as accommodating today. A few handfuls of market cod scattered around the boat with best of the lot threatening but not quite achieving the ten pound mark. The scup for the most part were much smaller as well today. The scup were mostly keepers with some big ones mixed in and a couple that approached the 3 lb mark. Quite a few ocean perch mixed in today as well as one or two sea flounder and a couple keeper fluke including a fine 5 lb slab that found a diamond jig irresistible. Tomorrow is a new day and Capt. Rich will set sail on the Gail Frances at 7am.
First mate Troy reported an awesome day of fishing today aboard the Admiral Frances for scup! The pleasant surprise was also the rather staggering amount of market size cod fish and short cod that found the angler’s clam offerings impossible to pass up today. Biggest cod around eight pounds but many of the anglers aboard had a cod or even two to go along with full pails and coolers of platter size scup. Many of the scup were in the 1.5 to 2.5 lb range with some approaching 3 lbs. Hi hook on the cod was longtime regular Mr. Pak who boxed five nice keeper cod and let six smaller ones go! Some pictures will be posted courtesy of longtime regular Ginny Reed. Next possible scup will be set to sail weather permitting Wednesday morning at 7 am.
The tuna trip which came back was another excellent one with a nice bunch of yellow fins and a couple of impressive big eye tunas. The yellows were all nice 50 to 80 lb fish and the big eyes were both in the 175 to 200 lb range. We are watching the weather closely for the coming Tuna trip scheduled to leave Wednesday Night October 1st.
