Roger reported a nice day of local fishing today aboard the Gail Frances. Much improved numbers of cod today with the best of the lot just entering the very low teens. In fact there was even a double header keeper cod catch today for one very pleased cod fisher!! Two anglers tied for hi hook honors boxing four keepers apiece with one other angler having three keeper cod and several others with two apiece and so on. All the super size scup to well over 3 lbs that anglers wanted with a few anglers easily limiting out. One angler who tried his best not to catch any scup still wound up with nearly 20 platter size specimens. Some big ocean perch, a couple more fluke including one really nice specimen of at least six pounds, one good size red hake, a giant alligator bluefish estimated in the low to mid teens that broke free right before the gaff could be utilized, and NONE of the unmentionables rounded out the species assortment. For anyone keeping track like me that is a total of 2 unmentionables in the past four cod fish outings!!! How awesome is that! Near perfect drifting conditions and flat seas today made for a really enjoyable day on the water. Pictures showcasing angler hi lights are provided courtesy of Roger. Whenever there are multiple fillet table shots they are ALWAYS of individual angler or group catches. No fillet table photos are ever used to showcase the same catch twice lol. Everything was caught on bait today. Next cod trip weather permitting will set sail at 7am Wednesday morning.
There are no trips scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday September 30th.
The Benji Hiller light tackle tuna charter in very local waters was a raging success with all the false albacore and bonito that the anglers wanted. Just a very exciting day of fishing today on the Captain Frances and a great day overall at the fleet!
