The good news continued on last night’s outing for a very light crowd of fishers. The most keeper bass in many weeks combined with a better number of blue fish made for a nice night of fishing. The bite was early too. One of the blue fish was a true alligator tipping the scales at 15 lbs! Some short bass as well but the ratio was definitely up last night. While a few fish were caught on eels, once again diamond jigs were the way to go. This can probably be explained by all the sand eels that have recently been found close to shore around Block Island. Anyways the past two nights of night fishing were the best in weeks and give us some serious hope that something really good may be in the cards in the upcoming weeks. Owner Christine Blount reported the morning half day trip started on the slower side but once the drift got better the action picked up and trip finished on a stronger note. A mix of nice size fluke and good size sea bass with the biggest fluke around six pounds and that fine fish was caught by longtime regular Ben’s nephew from NYC. A special shout out to Christopher Willer from Pt. St Lucie Florida who not only caught his first fluke ever on his first deep sea fishing trip ever, but it was a mighty fine one at that tipping the scales at nearly 4 lbs! Way to go Christopher!! A few big bluefish too. Pictures courtesy Christine Blount.
Captain Richie reported a slower day on the full day fluke boat. Some anglers did very well while others watched. Some nice sized fish in the mix but not as many to go around as we would have liked. High hook honors went to Norm and Irene who went home with 11 keeper fluke with the 10lb pool winner in the bag. Some sea bass and a handle full of blues rounded out today’s catch. Captain Rich will be sailing tomorrow morning at 7am.
