The Gail Frances sailed this morning with a full boat of enthusiastic cod fishers and according to the crew it was an excellent start to the fall cod season!! Nearly 200 keeper cod were boated today aboard the Gail Frances!! The results were quite varied from fisher to fisher but there were folks who had upwards to 6 to 9 nice cod apiece and quite a few who had 3 to 5 apiece. There was also a nice sprinkling of big sea bass to four pounds and a few handfuls of keeper scup plus one red hake and some big ocean perch. Even a half dozen small delicious eating Mahi couldn’t resist the fresh clam baits! Perhaps the most exciting addition to the fin fish list was the two dozen super size (to 5lbs) sea flounders that gave some anglers a real treat. A decent amount of cod in the 8 to 12 lb range with pool fish in the mid teens and while there were some throwbacks the majority of fish were keepers. Important to note that a lot the fish boated were nice green white bellied fish which is something we will never tire of seeing. A few fish on jigs but the fresh shucked shell bait seemed to be the way to go and the cod were jumping all over it!! Lets keep the ball rolling with the next cod trip setting sail tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
The Lady Frances is out on another Tuna trip this weekend and we are hopeful for better results so stay tuned tomorrow afternoon for a fresh tuna report!!
